I overheard a conversation discussing tie-breakers and head-to head matchups following the Western Branch/Nansemond River game last night. With Western Branch and Hickory playing each other to end the season the most likely scenarios for a first place tie is between either Western Branch and Nansemond River or Hickory and Nansemond River. In one scenario the teams split the head-to-head matchup, so a playoff for the district title makes sense. In the other scenario NR swept the head-to-head matchup with Hickory. However, the discussion I heard indicated that regardless of the sweep if Hickory and Nansemond River finish tied for first they would also have a playoff to determine the district champion. Does anyone know if this is correct?

In the past, it has only been the tied record which mattered and that forced the playoff game for the automatic berth to the Eastern Regionals. There was no such thing as a head to head tie-breaker. It appears another tie could come about for the 6th team to make the district playoffs. If they follow the practice of the past, the tied teams for the last spot in the district tournament also would have to play one another to determine the 6th seed.
