I'd guess 3 v 6 winner gets # 2 and 4 v 5 winner gets #1. They could reseed after the first two games.

Other random thought is that it is possible the #6 will be below .500 in the district when the season ends. Indian River is looking like that team at the half way mark but they don't have the horses they've had the last few years. It looks like a pretty wide gap between the haves and have nots this year.

The only real threats to WB or GB are GF & NR unless something changes dramtically in the 2nd half.

Hickory looks like they are on the way to another 9-9 or 10-8 season and a 5th or 6th place finish. Coach might not have been the issue over there. It could be the players just aren't as good as other teams.
Players once in Hickory program who have left:

2011

Colin Hancock left program
Cullin Boykin left program
Trent Ehert Atlantic Shores
Hunter Higgerson Great Bridge

2012
Brian Beard Great Bridge
Robby Lathrop Greenbrier Christian
Christian Younce Kellem
Phillip Gaskins left program

and those are just the ones who come quickly to mind.

plus TJ Lighton is recovering from surgery and Bobby Carpender is recovering from a torn achellies

name another program who could have losses of talent like that and remain competitive? You could take the eight players listed above and be competitive with ANY team in the SED.

we won't know anything about Hickory or how the new coach is working out till 2013 or 2014. All but 4 of the players currently playing for Hickory have no or almost no varsity game experience.

Give the kids and the coach some time and a break.

True enough that players move around and transfer to the Christian schools. I am sure OS could use James Bedi right now for example who is over at Greenbrier Christion. Looking up and down the Christian school rosters you could say that about almost every school in SED and the Beach.

I also read into the post the new coach will somehow find a way to prevent or limit transfes in the future. Obviously if that is true then you are correct that if players stop leaving they should improve over time.

I do think you are making my point though. Not critizing the players just making the observation that other schools have more better players right now. The record is what you are.

GB is winning with a Soph pitcher and Freshman in the infield. They have players on their bench that could start at any school in the District except maybe WB and be major contributors. It's not a stretch to say that if you took the benches at WB and GB and put them together they might be the 3rd best team in the district behind the teams they play for. They would likely out hit GF and probably would have better pitching than NR. They would make the playoffs and probably win 10-12 games. These things go in cycles ...just the way it is.

Though I would love to agree with you there are only 2 players on your list that would make this team better than they are. That would be Younce and Higgerson. The remainder of the names have been replaced with equal, if not better, talent.

TJ Lighten and Bobby Chandler weren't able to work out this winter. That puts them way behind everyone else. Their strength should be coming back soon and the pitching will start to be better.

They are a very young team. This coach is actually playing his bench. In the long run they'll be much better.

Maybe you never saw Colin Hancock play, he's a beast. He was 3-1 pitching on varsity as a soph, hit well over 300 and was one of the team leaders in HR's. He'd be a candidate for POY if he was still playing. Ehret is tearing it up at AS. Tell me Hickory couldn't use Lathrop and Beards pitching this year.

My point was that Hickory didn't use their bench for years and kids would leave. Those who stay didn't get enough playing time to develop. Varsity baseball is way different than AAU or showcase. You can't say it wasn't the coaching staff till you give the new staff a chance to keep and coach the players. That will take several years.

I agree the new coach is on the right track. In the long run they will be much better as you say.

You are correct in that the former coach didn't develop the young players. Their only development for the past 3 years was during summer and fall ball. Now they're getting development during the spring as well.
