Rainoutsux,

For either Grassfield or Hickory to advance to the Eastern Regional, they have to win 3 games.

For either Indian River or Nansemond River to advance to the Eastern Regional, they have to win 2 games IF Great Bridge wins on Wednesday and 3 games IF Great Bridge loses on Wednesday.

For Western Branch to advance to the Eastern Regional, they have to win 1 game IF Great Bridge wins on Wednesday and 2 games IF Great Bridge loses on Wednesday.

Really places importance on the seeding.

Great Bridge can be a key because they already have their bid to the Eastern Regional.

Sorry, I don't get your math. There are only 3 games being played so how do you get to 4 wins required?

I read ofs10's post as meaning if 1 reaches finals, 3-6 has to win two (beat them twice). That would be four. Obviously by your "I don't get your math" I must have read that wrong. So even if it's 3, still tough for 3-6 seed. Whoever pitches Monday most likely not available Thursday if they would make it to championship game.

Yeah no kidding. Having to win 3 in just 4 days is tough.
It is tough but not impossible. Clearly Grassfield has the pitching to make it through 3 games and Nansemond River very well may have the pitching. Earlier in the season, I would not have thought that Hickory would have that much pitching but given how many innings they played from May 6 - 16, they very well may. Hickory defeated Grassfield, 10-9, in a 13-inning affair on May 6 and defeated Nansemond River 4-1 on May 10 (and then won on 5/13 and 5/16). That is the equivalent of 3 games of pitching against top tier teams in 5 days.
I assume that "complaints" or suggestions re pricing should be sent to the VHSL? I think that any player who is a participant in a District tournament should be admitted without charge, even if they aren't playing that night. I also think that any player who plays on a team in that district, even if the team does not make it to the tournament, should be admitted free.

Sorry in advance, I do not have Indian River's player names.

Just like the first two games played between these teams this game was close throughout. Nansemond River threatened in the bottom of the 1st loading the bases on a Josh Howard single, Brandon Lowe double, and BB to Zach Vann with 1 out. Indian River starting pitcher #24 White then struckout the next batter and got a pop up to SS behind 2B to end the threat.

In the 2nd, Indian River opened with a single by Zeke Chancey which was followed by an error that allowed the runner on 1B to advance to 3B. After the runner advanced to 2B the IR DH #26 Shockley laced a line drive to the outfield scoring Chancey and White. In the bottom of the frame with one out Ryan O'Hara drew a walk and stole 2B. Blake Eure then drew a walk. NR tried a double steal and Eure got caught in a rundown between 1st and 2nd. O'Hara was able to beat the throw to the plate after Eure was tagged out scoring on the play. With 2 outs and the bases empty NR drew a walk, had a 2B by Howard, and scored when the IR pitcher walked consecutive batters before ending the inning with a strikeout.

IR was held scoreless in the 3rd. After an opening BB to Travis Johnson, Hayden Champigny took a 0-1 pitch deep over the CF wall to take a 4-2 lead to the 4th.

IR was held scoreless in the 4th. NR scored when Travis Johnson drove a two out 2B to right centerfield scoring Kyle Moore from 1B. NR up 5-2.

In the 5th, IR made NR pay after an error at 3B proved costly when A.J. Hunt from IR hit a 2 out 2 run HR which was followed by a 2B by Roger Hall and a run scoring single by Chancey to tie the game with 3 unearned runs. In the bottom of the 5th Blake Eure opened with a 2B was advanced to 3B by a Tyler Brown sac bunt and scored on a Josh Howard groundout to SS. NR 6-5.

Both teams were held scoreless in the 6th setting up an exciting finish. After Howard retired the first two batters, IR SS Hall had his 3rd hit of the night and moved to 2B on a passed ball. Zeke Chancey then drew a walk. In what may have been the pivotal moment of the game the runners broke for 2nd and 3rd on a 1-2 pitch. The pitch was wild and went to the backstop. As Hall rounded 3rd heading home he slipped and fell and was forced to go back to the bag. Howard then struckout the next batter ending the game.

Indian River
A.J. Hunt 2-4 HR run scored and 2RBI
Roger Hall 3-4 2B run scored
Zeke Chancey 2-3 run scored and RBI
#26 Shockley 1-2 2 RBI

#24 White 2IP 4R 4H 2K 7BB
Connor Inskeep (L) 4IP 2R (1 ER) 4H 2K 2BB

Nansemond River
Josh Howard 2-4 2B RBI
Hayden Champigny 2-3 2B, HR run scored 2 RBI

Josh Howard (W) 7IP 5R (1 ER) 10H 7K 2BB

WB reporter is right on the mark when it comes to charging baseball players a fee to watch their friends/foe's play. The Beach District did the same thing for the Championship Game last week, FC/Kellam, the tournament director charged players 4 dollars, ridicules, as a parent I don't mind paying $6 bucks, that's cheap compared to Basketball, Football, S****r, but to charge players to pay, come on. Oh, how about getting golf carts to transport the Grandparents/handicapped, its a long walk at Landstown, and although I did see a cart, no one knew who was in charge to ask for help, cause alot of parents were asking, discussions were heated.
No game tonight. Tomorrow at 3:30. Some confusion as to where. Some say at Grassfield and some say at Nansemond River. Also sounds like there is a possibility that the Nansemond River / Western Branch game is moved up tomorrow night and the winner of the Grassfield / Hickory game will play a second game tomorrow, that against Great Bridge as the late night game tomorrow night.
