Accoding to the sign in sheet at So MD Camp the coaches list was a little light the first day.....U of Richmond, Hampen Sydney, a bunch of community colleges and a few few pro team stringers (Yanks, Orioles, Astros, Red Sox). Hopefully this will improve next Sunday. Curious if Diamond Skills had a better turn-out by coaches.

Hard to say who 'looked good' with only a handful of pitches, or cage swings, in mid-January form. Some kids have some buzz about them, deserved or not, others are under the radar and just produce every year without the hype.

Interesting no one from University of Maryland
I was not impressed with Eric Bakich while he was at Vanderbilt during the recruitment process with my son. The Coach had some very harsh words to us after the commitment was made to another University. End of story.

As a Maryland Alumni having spent seven of years of my life attending the University, I only wish the Maryland Baseball Program well and hope to attend most of the games at College Park (again this year).

Give it up, grow up, and turn the frickin page.

And oh by the way, you may have attended
less than ten games at Terpville in twenty years,
so please stop being full of yourself!
A much better turnout week two for major programs including:
GA Tech
Wake
Hartford (3-4 coaches)
UNC Charlotte
Maryland
Wm & Mary
St Joe
VA Tech
Davidson
Towson
Salisbury
Butler
Liberty
Radford
Catholic
plus others....

With pitchers/catchers I saw a few players talk with coaches, but not very many. Some tournament teams (Rookies, Monarchs) spoke with freshmen/sophs.

Maybe it's all in the follow up.
Diamond Skills had alomost the exact same list of coaches. Their camp is on Saturday and Wargo's is on Sunday. Plus Diamond Skills had two guest instructors, Bill Mosiello, a manager in the Anaheim Angels organization. He has coached at Tennesse, Auburn, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Southern Cal, and Arizona State.

Justin Mashore is a former 3rd round draft pick of the Detroit Tigers. He is now a hitting instructor for the Toronto Blue Jays organization!
I was more impressed with the kids this week than last. They all seemed more relaxed in their workout. There was 1 freshman left that is a stud. His name was Benitez. I saw Bouey throwing pretty darn well. Neary was talking with every coach in the building from what I saw. Did the catchers do the throw downs this year like they did last year? Any good times?
I'm thinking there could be several reasons. Unless a NLI was signed, something in the recruiting process with UMD could've happened and they will no longer be attending Maryland-hence they are looking for some exposure. The second reason is if they are looking for exposure to pro scouts. I know Southern MD has pro guys attend. So if it's one of the couple top UMD commits, that could very well be a reason why they'd attend. Lastly, maybe they like the competition, and proving themselves. A lot of kids who are already signed play in big time showcases to do this sort of thing. If the $ is there, then why not? It does give them a chance to play with some top notch talent during January
I agree, MAB.

IF you are a competitor, you want to compete. And, that means showing (hopefully) your best stuff against the best competition. Obviously, you don't want to risk injury, but even if you have committed...I completely understand why a kid would want to be out there.

And...recruiting/signing is a crazy business. No harm in continuing to show/play after you made a verbal. You never know what may happen and you may want to go to "Plan B" before signing a LOI.
MAB -
What problems? All I've heard are great comments...particularly with regard to the number of college coaches there and the quality of the schools.

You can't come on here and say you heard there were 'some problems' and not be specific. Jerry Wargo is a class guy who has run a great camp for many years.

For those that were attending - any problems with Southern Maryland camp?
One other comment to add about the Southern MD Camp (might also be true of the Diamond Skills camp, not sure) - I heard that not only were there DI schools there, but DII, DIII, and Juco schools were also represented, along with pro scouts.

These camps provide something for most every level of talent in terms of exposure. If you are a player looking to be seen, I think the opportunity to showcase your talent can't be much better.
