This "cut the corner" play reminds me of the "potato play". The catcher has a potato in his back pocket. After receiving a pitch With a runner on third the catcher fires the potato over the runners head into left field. The runner jogs into home where the catcher tags him with the ball. I've never seen it, but i heard it decided an important game years ago in H.S. in Colo.
My question would be: if you ran these plays, how do you show yourself in your baseball community for the years to come???
trojan-skipper, there's a rule against that to.
It's the same as if you applied a fake tag with no ball in glove.
Deception.

I think some people have no idea what a terrible effect this unethical behaviour has on our leaders of tomorrow, I'm embarrassed to admit that I actually thought this play was funny (as long as it wasn't run against us) until you guys made me stop and think about how awful this really was. If league leaders got together and took a stand by making the consequences fit the crime nobody would have to put up with this classless type of behaviour. If they would toss the player and coach immediately, suspend the player for a year and the coach for life I doubt anyone would EVER try that play again!
And instead of plunking the next batter have all your players get a ball out of the ball bucket and bean the real offenders- cheater coach and shortcutting runner!

If coaches have to rely on the above described plays they are in trouble.
