was at a camp this weekend where they timed batted ball speed off a tee. My son is 13 and was timed at 75 mph. Is this time good bad or average. Thanks alot in advance for responses
I'd never heard of it before, always thought they measured bat speed. Times ranged fro 50's to mid 80's but I know there are some knowledgable guys on this site, that might have some insight
I've done it for fun with high school kids; highest reading I saw was 94 (strong kid with a nice line drive stroke) 75 sounds good to me at 13. A lot of my hs guys were high 70's and 80-something. I only did this one year a few seasons ago so i've only gunned about 20 or 30 kids max.
HBO special on metal bats quoted some college coaches as tracking speeds in excess of 115 MPH off of high tech metal bats, to which no human being is quick enough to react. The testing issue is that in determining BESR, metal bats are tested with a 75 mph pitch being hit with a 75 mph swing. That's a whole separate subject...
