Chico's Bail Bonds!

When I was a kid, my friends' dad owned a bar. He sponsored our team. The bar's name was on our jerseys. It didn't bother anyone. It was pretty common.

If you're talking 2011 Bud Lite HS All America Team, I could see some eyebrows raising.

And... every Legion post I've ever been in has a bar.

That is a good one...
At the end of the day, if a legit licensed business wants to support local youth sports, I applaud and appreciate them. The boys are too young to become patrons anyway. As long as the waitresses in the short shorts and halter tops were not showing up as bat girls Cool

I'm not sure why they would want to add the "Brewers" part to the name. If I'm that sponsor, I'd just use the bar name only for more direct advertising.

i.e. -
Benny's Bar & Grill
vs
Benny's Brewers (sometimes referred to just as "Brewers")

This is a very interesting topic.
We had many sponsors that were 'Pizzerias" that served beer and wine. We also had some that were Restaurants that served all varieties of alcohol.

Even grocery stores here all sell beer, wine, liquor, and they sponsor teams.

I don't think that a sponsor that is So - and - So's Liquors, is in anyway saying " Com'on kids, drink liquor". It only advertises a business that is available to qualifying adults.

I mean really are we going to say that "Cutie Cupcakes & Cookies & Sugary Things" sponsors a team is a bad thing - because some people that shouldn't eat those things do?

It's community support, teams need sponsors, companies, shops, businesses would like exposure for networking and growing their business - it's a win/win. It pales in comparisson to what kids are exposed to in the mainstream media, and the pounding to drink.
I don't know how it is in other areas of the country, but many youth organizations around here are supported by gambling (pull-tabs and/or bingo, to be precise.) Not only that, where do those activities occur? In bars.

The reality is that the local tavern is a staple of many a small town in the Midwest (and, I'd guess, a lot of other areas in the U.S.) It is often the social point of the town, whether it be a VFW, Legion, other club, private establishment...in all these cases, it's not just a place that sells alcohol; it's where the locals go to BS, catch up, grab a bite and a brew, and just hang out. If these places want to support the community more, I have no issue with them giving some of their money (or time, space, or whatever) to better the lives of kids.

If we were talking of a speakeasy or something illegal, though, that would be different.

This is not new, I saw a strip club sponsore a LL club in Nevada.

Yeah, but common...that's Nevada...only place with strippers old enough to have kids in LL...

At least there's probably not too much of a "Daddy-ball" problem.

Attendance at games was immense! the gals kept the field and sold drinks too. Dressed of course.
