Happy Easter all. Excellent article in the paper regarding Towney's funeral, must read.

In looks like Ocean Lakes is taking care of business
down at the Disney complex.

Nanesmond River Tourney

First off, hats of to the Nanesmond River staff. Considering the snow we had yesterday morning, the field was in immaculate condition. Additionally, I was told that there was no tarp to cover the field.

Lakeland 6 Green Run 4:

I came into the tail end if this game; Green Run had loaded the bases in the top of the 7th and were on the verge of tying the game. But with two outs a strikeout ended the rally and game.

Grandy 12 Landstown 3:

This game was tighter than the score indicates. Landstown lead 3-2 after four. The sixth inning was the one where the wheels came off the wagon (we are good for one a game and need to stop this trend).

The game started at 5:30, weather was tolerable, but as the sun went down, naturally so did the temperature. Oddly, the ball was actually carrying, especially to right where Brad Chambers sent a laser-shot over the right-centerfield fence.

Granby is a well coached, talent-laden, disciplined hitting team. They would match-upnicely in the top tier of the Beach District.

Landstown 22 Wilson 4:

Landstown started out fast; a miscue by Wilson opened the door for the Landstown bats. Leading 9-2,
with a combination of hits and errors; Landstown tacked on 9 more in the fourth (wholesale changes took place during this inning, subs contributed with big hits). Cameron Butler picked-up his second win of the season.

Yes, it was very cold.

Weird sideways layout today in the paper.

Mondays scores of local teams playing out of town:

FT. Lauderdale;

Great Bridge 6 Deerfield (FL) 4

Grimsely Hot Stove;

Kempsville 6 Washington (NC)3

Hawaian Tropic at Myrtle Beach;

Greenbrier 11, Martinsburg (W.Va) 4

Nanesmond RiverToday;

Nanesmond River 7 Landstown 3

In the bottom of the 4th, Nansemond leading 2-0.
The Warriors had bases loaded and 2 outs (no runs had scored in the inning) batter strikes-out (brakeing-ball in the dirt. From there it is unsure if the catcher had the ball and touched the plate; no call from the ump. I know the runner from third recognizing the confusion, raced on home. I was yelling to throw the ball to first (of course no one heard except those around me and probably all thought I was nuts); the batter had stopped momentarly then proceeded to first.

After a lengthy conference with the coaches, the ump ruled that the catcher had not sold him on the fact that he had actually touched home. . Now the scores 3-0 with bases loaded and Andy Toppings comes up, yep you guessed; Grand Slam 7-0. We did come back and scratch 3 runs in the top of the fifth.

Nanesmond River has a formidable team with some mighty fine ballplayers.

Jesse Mcartney(second outing due to recovery of injury) came in for Landstown and struck out the side in the bottom of the 6th.
