I know it's basketball and not baseball, but what do people think about Tony Bennett's retirement from college coaching at Virginia? Most things I've read say he just didn't like the transfer/NIL/one-and-done landscape.

He hasn’t been happy with the direction of college sports for several years. He said he’s not comfortable working in the new environment.
Very sad. Being a basketball coach at a P4 school put him close to where the money was made. With all the recent changes, he wants no part of its future. It is clearly not where he wants to be at 55 years old. Don't know if this is going to make other coaches think hard about what they want out of life.
Not a UVA fan, but I've always been a Tony Bennett fan. He stuck to his principles, and that is refreshing in the win and cash in at all costs college sports world.
JMO.

Did he stick to his principles when he signed a contract extension back in the summer? The timing of this is extremely poor imo.

Whether he retired or resigned, he walked away from being paid under that contract. The dynamics of change in the last few weeks as the impact of the House settlement evolves has to be unsettling to more than a few coaches. As contrasted with your views, I would think his walking away from a lot of $$$ for his expressed concern about the chaotic process of the professionalization of college sports is a message which should resonate. adbono is explaining it so clearly for baseball!
I think Gundy makes sense a lot but I think he is right here. I think football, basketball and baseball need commissioners. College sports will end up in a bad spot. It’s predictable.
How about detaching the P4 teams from the universities, let them license the names and stadiums, and just make them a minor league? Because that's what he is saying.
