"As soon as I got out there I felt a strange relationship with the pitcher's mound. It was as if I'd been born out there. Pitching just felt like the most natural thing in the world. Striking out batters was easy." - The Sultan of Swat

I missed the game STAB v. NDA game, but got a report from the losing Pitcher -- my son. As a freshman, new to the rivalry, after hearing about some of Long's antics in previous STAB/NDA meetings, he was expecting to see a wildman. Instead, after STAB won the game in the bottom of the 7th following an OF error and a base hit to score the winning run; he reported that Long was the one trying to get his team to stop their mid-field celebration, to line up and shake hands. As the guy who took the loss (and took it hard), he saw that as pretty classy.
Midlo I am sure you’re right that there are some folks out there who as you said “there will always be people who want to run him down behind his back” because of who he is and what he has accomplished and that is wrong. That said Kyle does bring some of this on himself. In every game (NDA vs STAB) that Kyle has pitched he has acted classless. This year he toned it down (maybe he is growing up), but he still verbally went after opposing players. When NDA started hitting and scoring he got frustrated and directed some of his antics at the umpire. In previous games it was a lot worse. He has verbally abused his catcher, head coach, umpires and other players (both his teammates and the opposing team). He would drop the F-bomb on anybody at anytime, verbally challenged opposing players (and I am not talking a friendly game or wager), has told his head coach to get the &^%$ back in the dugout and verbally gone after his own teammates that is classless. The fact that he is on this board and others declaring he went 2/3 against Crosby and Crosby struck out 3 times against him is classless. The fact is the kid can play and does not need to act this way. The problem is no coach, umpire or player has ever returned the favor.
i can vouch for the greenbrair incident, after giving up the homerun long lost his cool which is understandable seeing that it was at a key moment in the game. however it did seem as though the beaning of the player who hit the hr was very very intentional. thats what happened but i will leave the debates to you guys
I was attending the game at stab and the last pitcher for notre dame threw about 60 mph if that. there was no chance for notre dame to win with the bp throwing pitcher throwing. Unfortunately the left fielder lost the ball in the lights but it would have just been a matter of time with that young boy pitching. If he caught that ball the big 6'5 275 pound man would of been up next to launch a 890 foot homerun over the right field house. Rugger5 its ok. he was lucky to not have that man child step up to the plate. good luck to both teams. remember KEEP THAT EPHUS PITCH DOWN SON!
ballove69 -- for the record -- that 14-year old freshman throws between 68-72 these days, and survives on hitting spots and changing speeds. About the game-winning hit, he made no excuses, he simply said he missed his spot; and took it all on himself. Had he faced your 6'-5" big man, I can assure you he would not have backed down. Many a batter has gone down thinking he was going to take this "BP pitcher" deep. Quite a few thought that in the 4 shutout innings he threw in last night's win. The game may have been lost, but he won in the long term -- because character counts.
Seems to happen a lot with dual-position players, I think he needs to drop the football gig when he is on the mound. Has a lot of potential as a pitcher and if he cools the act, he could do big things. I have heard he has improved from last years attitude, but I hope for the best. Off the field he is always sincere and kind to players, coaches, parents and fans.
