Been reading some on the net. This seems to be a good indicator of core strength and ability to get off base quickly(running explosiveness). Coaches measured the standing long jump in the HS workout. Anyone know how a 116 inch standing long jump relates? Son a senior - 5'9" 160 lbs. Searched the net and this site and nothing. Just curious and sure someone on this site knows Smile. Thanks,

There used to be a program called SPARQ which tested several things including long jump. Some of the larger programs which used to include SPARQ testing included in their testing, have since discontinued them due to questions on relativeness to baseball skills and having some of the players get hurt when doing the testing.

It now looks like the SPARQ site, which was part of Nike, has been taken down.

My son had a couple good back to back outings at the AZ Fall Classic during the Sparq testing. So I went to his site here to find the Original Sparq site to see if it was still up and running. http://myespn.go.com/blogs/hig...r--Fall-Classic.html If you go to their link below the article you can get into the Sparq site. Yes, Nike bought them out and they are up and running better than ever they say. Sparqs program is also affiliated with the ESPN Rise Program still. Hope you can find the long jump info there. They don't do the long jump for baseball ratings. You may need to check with the football section for ratings. Hope this helps!
