I'm pretty sure they do mass emails as my son has gotten plenty. If a player on lets say the midwest/east coast is getting emails from Coach Stotz how authentic can it be? Can they really expect you to want to make an unofficial visit 2000 miles away without a great chance of being recruited, any thoughts on this?

I used to get a lot of emails from Coach Stotz as well. It seems like he tends to fire off emails to all his recruits quite frequently and it seems that that often is done without him proofreading what he was written LOL...however if you email him he pretty reliably replies in a timely manner no matter who you are (I say this because I certainly wasn't truly on his radar and he talked to me in the early going).
My son is also getting multiple emails from Stotz at Stanford. He has also been asked to provide transcripts and test scores. Does this make it any more personal or do they ask everyone for this info as well? When we responded that son was retaking test on a certain day there was a follow up at the appropriate time asking for the new scores...
I think the email list is pretty big, and while it's neat to be getting those seemingly personal messages, a lot of kids are getting the same ones. Stotz is very good about responding, and his responses are timely and individual. My son sent him several emails with questions, and always got a fast, lengthy, reply. But unless you are a super stud on their radar, and have the stellar grades for the school, and extraordinary test scores...well, they are just info gathering emails. Reply, send what they ask for, and keep working hard. It can't hurt!
