My son just got accepted into the 2010 Stanford Baseball Prospect Camp. We are waiting for the electronic packet from Coach Stotz. We will be coming from halfway around the globe-the Philippines to be exact! We were ready to forego his dream of playing college baseball as baseball is not that popular in our country. However, after attending winter camp in an NCAA div 1 school in the east coast, we were told that he had a very good chance of playing college baseball in the US. What are the chances of foreign players ever getting noticed in the Stanford camp? My son plays first base and is a clean-up batter. He has played in tournaments in Japan, Taiwan, and in the US.

Good

However, I would recommend that you improve your chances. You can generally find out what coaches will be working the camp. Your son (you can ghost write it) should send them a short letter (1-page is enough). Have him tell them about himself (grades, test scores, baseball background). Make sure that he looks at the website of the schools/coaches he writes so that he will be prepared to talk to the coach if they acknowledge his letter.

Tell him to have fun; it is a great experience.
Pinoy Dad,

Welcome to the HS Baseball Web!

Hopefully Krakatoa will see your question and chime in. "Krak" is one of our longtime active members who is originally from the U.S. but now lives with his family in Korea. He was successful in getting his son summer exposure in the U.S., his son performed very well, and now pitches for a very good college baseball program in Texas.

Hi Pinoy Dad,

Kumusta na pare ( How are you my friend)? Nice to have some Filipino blood in this forum. Congratulations to your son being selected in the Stanford All Star Camp. What grade is he in the Philippines?

Just to give an idea to everyone, when I was growing up back home..Our grade school goes only up to 6th grade and then go to HS for 4 years..So a senior in HS here in the US is equivalent to a 2nd year college student in the Philippines.

I am not sure what year is your son though.Anyways that is quite an achievement! The good thing in baseball is there is no global boundaries if you have talent. Good Luck.

My son is a 2012 and still awaiting confirmation for the Futures Camp if he gets picked.

Any Forum members got invites for the 2012 Futures Camp yet? Got an email from Stanford that it will come out pretty soon.

God Bless,

Hi Ryanrod23 He is an incoming senior this June , 2010 but since there is no grade 8 in the Philippines, he will be equivalent to an incoming junior in the US. He has played twice in the Junior League World series in Taylor, Michigan and once in the Senior League World series in Bangor. Knowing that baseball is not big in the Philippines and seeing my son continuing to have the passion for it is quite frustrating. Cheers and good luck to your son.
Pinoy;

If you are the Stanford camp on July 1, I will discuss International baseball with the group of players and parents. Coach Dean has provided me the opportunity to speak for a few minutes.

Maybe you can join our Goodwill Series teams December 19 in Perth, Western Australia.
You can organize a team or place several players on our Rays '18 and under team. We will play teams
from China and the STATE team from Western Australia.

Please express your interest by sending an e-mail.
