Some time back I read that some organizations were using a novel method for teaching their untutored beginner "T Ball youngsters how to hit the ball. I think it was to have the players walk into the batter's box simply take a whack at the ball as they moved into it.
At the time I thought that would be better way for their bodies to find a "stroke" for themselves, and maybe that worked better than the conventional method of teeing up the ball, and taking aim with the arms and hands.

Has anyone followed the success of that method?

Am I correct in imagining this as some sort of the "Happy Gilmore" method of hitting a baseball?....

If so:

I would say that I am not in favor of teaching young players any method that in the future would have to be unlearned or considered illegal....

Any temporary success at this age may cause bad habits at later stages.....
Bad idea.

Agree with Piaa,

The rest of the kid's career, good hitting instructors will have to spend time getting the kid to quit leaning into the pitch.

You'd have better luck, having your young T-Baller learning how to hit the ball deeper in the zone without leaning forward with the body or reaching out with their hands.

Basically the opposite approach as you are describing if I am understanding you correctly.

Ahh Bluedog...I saw that as well.....but elected to skip over that....But it pales in comparison to what goes on in my area....

We do not have T-ball, we are governed by PONY baseball and have PINTO leagues for the little ones....which is basically coach pitch. But what they do have is "PINTO ALL STARS"...

Mind you these are 5-6-7 year olds......
