Last season - .259 in 49 games, 174 AB, 18 HR, 50 RBI, .638 slg, 33 bb, 85 SO, .393 OBP

This season - .235 in 28 games, 98 AB, 7 HR, 17 RBI, .510 slg, 19 bb, 53 SO, .367 OBP

Kid has enormous power - big league power, easy oppo power, most hr's to CF, over the batting eye kind of power. What do you do as a college coach with this kid? Play him, or sit him? This year he has had two golden's and one platinum sombrero. I have no stake in this player or his team. I just find him to be a perplexing player.

Striking out close to have of his plate appearances this season.  It's tough as a coach...you want the HR's but can't give up the K's.  A .235 average isn't helping.....plus K's are up...HR's and RBI's down from last year.   At this point in the season, I can't imagine he's going to see a lot of AB's unless things change pretty quickly.  7 HR and 17 RBI isn't enough to keep that average and the K's in the lineup

Coach stuck with him last year and at times, I felt he should have sat him. Maybe sat 4 games. At this point of the season, he has sat him 5 games including two in a row. He's one of my favorite players to watch. Because if he hits it, it goes. Ball just carries. If the wind is blowing in and no one else goes yard, he does. Good defense, great arm, 6.5-6.6 60. Lots of potential.

What grade?  What level of college?  My son is a senior.....what I've seen is that if a guy strikes out, he's going to continue to strike out.  A batting average and the others stats dropping significantly and K's going up as he gets older is not a good sign.    I'm gonna guess that he's got the same swing no matter the situation.  He's going for a HR on every swing, no matter the count or the situation?  He doesn't have a "put it in play" swing....or if he does, he just refuses to use it?   At some point, he's going to have to get the average up and cut down on the K's or he'll end up sitting

Senior playing D2, JUCO transfer. You nailed it on his swing, he goes for it. But, he also gets called out looking a lot. I've seen some doubles and base hits, but they're hit hard. Ripped. Can't recall just a normal base hit. Fun to watch.

He looks at pitches he could hit, though. And that's what is so frustrating. Because, I've seen him take a pitch, and shake his head at the ump. Then the pitcher throws the same pitch and he hits it out.

I would say the average is no reason to sit him with that power but that K rate is concerning. He is striking out more than 50%. 50% doesn't play at any level. Power and some walks can compensate for a lack of contact (Adam dunn) but in mlb even the extremely high K guys only whiff like 35% of the time.

It is a little sad because he seems to have pro power but the hit tool just doesn't seem to be there. I don't even think the player can be faulted, he does everything right by playing to his strengths and even showing patience but if contact isn't there it is hard to improve at least with older players.

Depends on how the rest of the team is doing. If the team stinks and are going to lose with or without him in the lineup, might as well keep him in there. If they're competitive and have a suitable replacement then I'd start phasing him out the lineup.

At this point it's too late to change a swing. Unless he plays gold glove defense, a guy who is striking out half the time is not much more than a late game PH.

It's a HR hitting team with good power throughout the lineup and a ballpark that carries well. All but one player in the lineup has hit a HR and the subs have hit some too. There's an underclassmen that is in the double digits on homers that also hits for average. So, it looks like he's sitting for now.

If he had around 50 K's last season instead of 85, along with about 10 more base hits and 10 more walks, he would have been drafted as a junior. Now, he's in no man's land. I don't think he played summer ball after last season. He should have played and worked on cutting down the K's.
