I've used TurboStats. It's good. There are others, I assume they do basically the same things: Hitting, Pitching and Fielding stats. Some programs have better provisions for handling a whole league, or multiple leagues than other basic programs.

Some include the ability to do spray charts on where hitters are hitting the ball. TurboStats does that. It also has a lineup card maker among other frills that I haven't used, I think you can get a sort of palm pilot type thing to use with it for those who score games that way (I don't, old fashioned scorebook and pencil for me).

It has a good report function where you can really tailor it to what you want to look at, include or not include anything you want, sort team/player stats in ascending or descending order. Separate different game types (season, playoff, tournament, and any other custom type you want to include) and look at any individual game type, all types or any combination and do a report. Breaks down Righty/Lefty matchups if you track that and enter it, both from a Pitcher or Hitter perspective. Enter player personal info and I think it has an auto mass email function if you want to get that complex.

If you are the scorekeeper and your head coach has the same program it's easy to do all the entry work and then email him a file that he can load onto his computer and call up and do reports on. It's a pretty neat program. I've been happy with it.

Before that I made my own stat program using Excel. It worked fine for several years, then I got TurboStats since it did everything I could think I'd possibly need in the future and I wouldn't have to keeping reworking my Excel program to add more stat rollups to it.

I haven't used anything else.

Thanks for the info Dad... Last year I used a program through www.statleaders.com
Was not too difficult to enter information, but I like that the Turbo one is able to distinguish from R/L hitting.. we had a switch hitter and I had to enter him twice with an R or an L to figure out which way he went..
Good thing about statleaders though is you can try it for so many weeks for free and the guy who made it is really accessible. I had a couple of suggestions and questions and he contacted me both times within 12 hours..was great personal service. I will look at the other one for next year.
CatchingTheHeat,
I'll have to check to see how TurboStats does the switch hitter. I've never had one so haven't used it that way. I do know that you can see how a player (or the team) hits against Lefty (or Righty) Pitchers and how your Pitcher (or entire Pitching staff) does against Righty or lefty Hitters, or both combined.

Another pretty cool feature is you can examine, for instance, how a hitter has been doing for the past "X" number of games, and you specify how many games you want it to look at. It's also pretty easy to do a report on a particular opponent and see your players' stats against them. Or if you've played them often, and have taken the time to enter THEIR stats into it, then you can break it down into seeing who on your team does the best against their stud lefty for instance. Maybe one player really 'owns' him.

Lastly, for now, you can set it up to give you custom reports, and specify as many or as few categories as you like. You can set up at least 10 custom reports that way. So if you want just a quick look at BA, OBP, and OBPS you can call up that report. Or instantly call up the full thing including SOS, SOL, BB, HR, 2B, etc as well as BA, OBP, and OBPS and all sorts of other stats complete with R/L breakdown. Same for Pitching. It's also pretty easy to use.
