Perhaps somebody with more knowledge than I have can answer a question about pitching stats at the pro level. Under individual player statistics for pitchers, there is a column that is headed GO/AO and the numbers that appear below are obviously a ratio. I figure GO stands for Ground Outs ... but what the heck is AO? Is it a stranger abbreviation for a fly out (I was joking that it meant 'air outs' ...) Anyway, just wondering. If anybody wants to take a guess, here is a link to my son's individual page ...

That explains why the difference in abbreviations even tho most of us consider a line drive to be a fly ball (unless it is a minor league radio announcer in which case a line drive can be any hit ball that takes a straight shot, even to the backstop netting --- my hubby said he always pictures a line drive as something moving forward, not backward )
