However, if this was the third strike on the batter and 2 outs (I know the OP says 1 strike), then no run scores.

Okay I know this is an old post but I have a question:

If R3 is sliding into home and is hit by the pitch, would this not be interference, if the pitcher did not step off but was in fact delivering a pitch?

If R3 reached the plate (a steal) just before the ball crossed the strike zone, wouldn't the run count?

The FED rule is the same as the rule quoted by Mr. Umpire.

Dead ball, call the pitch, R3 scores, all other runners move up one, unless the pitch is strike 3 for the 3rd out (then no run even if R3 touched the plate before being hit by the pitch).

It is not INT.

In theory, you are saying that I can have my guys steal home, after the pitcher has started his delivery, and if he can get to the plate before the pitch he can can "take one for the team" by getting hit by the pitch as he is around, in front of or on the plate and that is not INT?

If he is to the plate before the ball gets there then he would be safe and not have to "take one for the team" to do so. (assuming no 3rd strike)

Ok, playing devils advocate hear, what is R3's status considered as after he crosses the plate..ie; spectator, player on field...etc?

Please don't think I am being argumentative, just throwing out a few things.

After he scores he becomes another teammate authorized to be on the field.

So, the on deck batter is another teammate authorized to be on the field....is he allowed to run up to the plate while a pitch is being delivered and stand in the opposite batters box and get hit by a pitch? (again, just throwing things out there)...

Also, why is it ruled "dead ball" if the ball hits R3 once he has crossed the plate, if his is an "authorized' player on the field should the ball not remain "live"...if the catcher misses the ball, due to crossed up signals, and hits the Ump (who is an authoprized person on the field and considered in play) square in the mask, the ball is not ruled "dead" is it?
