What do you coaches feel about stepping off instead of throwing to first to hold a runner on at first in the late innings of close game.

I like stepping off in the late innings for two reasons:

01-- there is no chance for the throw to be wild

02-- it serves the same purpose with no chance of error

I think you need both if you only step off and are a zero threat to throw over the second the front heal comes up my runner is gone. I would also frustrate the pitcher by not diving back aggresivly if l truly believe there is no chance of a throw. If you don't want to throw over and I know it I'm doing one way leads and forcing you to do what you don't want to do maybe even setting up a conflict between coach and pitcher
