2008 INFO COMING SOON ...

NORTHWEST SUBURBAN BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

THE NWSBT FEATURES ALL STAR TEAMS FROM THE 8 BIGGEST CONFERENCES IN THE NORTH, THE NORTHWEST, AND WESTERN SUBURBS OF CHICAGO.

EACH TEAM IS COMPRISED OF 22-25 PLAYERS. ALL THE PLAYERS ARE SELECTED BY THE COACHES OF THE RESPECTIVE CONFERENCES. (Similar format to All-Conference selections) ALL PLAYERS ARE FROM THE CLASS OF 2009. Scouts like this event because it really does reflect the top emerging 09 prospects and athletes in the respective conferences and it's an invite only event. It's a huge plus for the kids that get invited, tremendous exposure. You will get a look at all the well known kids and it seems every year new names that have been flying below the radar emerge from Stevenson with offers and in some circumstances high draft potential. Not one to miss.

THE JUNE TOURNAMENT IS HELD AT STEVENSON HIGH SCHOOL, IN LINCOLNSHIRE, ILLINOIS

I played in this event way back in '99. It was an excellent event. My question is, I have a few 2010s who I think belong at an event like this next year. We are a smaller school rural conference and do not send a team to the showcase. Is there a way for these players to compete in this showcase even though we don't send a team as a conference? Who should I contact?
Plainfield is usually the week after Stevenson and is also run by Harvey Foster, same format different conferences. Last year they had a Central Illinois tema and a Western Illinois team that weren't associated with conferences. The Western Illinois team should fit you BCRockets. Get Austin Jarvis on that team next year!
At the meeting last night, Harvey was upset that the Central Suburban League sent 5 catchers. There should only be 3, not enough innings and at bats to go around. One was moved to a different conference who didn't have enough catching, but it still leaves 4. All the kids are probably legit and belong. But, they won't get as much exposure as others.

I agree with him. Having played in the game and coached in the Big Northern, I don't think we should send a team just from our conference to the game. I will certainly look into the Plainfield showcase for some of our guys next year.

Does the Western Sun send a team?
Apparently the weather didn't hold. Would have thought with a Friday/Saturday format that Sunday would have been reserved as a rain day. That was not the case, however; and all events had to be crammed into one fun-filled day. I am certain that the coaches/scouts were exhausted from running from one field to another all day.
There was no extension to Sunday as all of the coaches were on their way to a tournament in Oklahoma. No 60 times were run as the grass was very wet and my guess is they didn't want it chewed up.

Yes, coaches did have their track shoes on running from one field to the next. They staggered the start times, so all the coaches could at least watch the teams take pre-game fielding.

In the two games I caught all or part of, there was lots of scoring. In the Upstate 8-Fox Valley game, of the 18 pitchers, there were only five, maybe six pitchers that didn't allow a run and there were half a dozen homers.

From the U-8, Kris Singh from Waubonsie Valley threw one shut-out inning and had a double and a single. Mike Diebold from Streamwood also threw a shutout inning.

From the FVC, Kevin Kaczmarski from Prarie Ridge must have had three stolen bases - fast, fast, fast.

Overall, a great (long) day of baseball. Harvey does a great job.
