Top DIII has shown some interest. As part of the process, they have requested  a  coach's evaluation.  Problem is HS coach was just fired, after a very tense and trying season.  Generally a bad situation all around -- with much division, and much anger at the coach on the part of some  -- though, in fairness, he also had his staunch supporters.   I've mentioned before that my son first started for him,  then was benched, then hurt his back, so, as a consequence, saw almost no action the entire season.   Not at all sure what the coach would say about him.   On the other hand, I've talked with his long time travel coach, his long time hitting instructor,  and his long time strength/conditioning/defensive coach, plus his sprint coach.  They would all  write very strong evaluations.    Not sure what to do about this one.  My thought is just to have, say, two of those four guys each fill out the form and leave it at that.  The worry is whether it would look odd not including an evaluation from the HS coach.   I've thought of asking the HS coach point blank if he could and would write a strong evaluation for the kid.  Others have advised me not to.  They say he is not to be trusted.  I just don't know, personally.

I think you can have the best of both worlds on this one.  Call the coach and ask him what he'd say.  If it sounds negative, don't include his input.  If it sounds like he'd say something reasonable, then include it.  The D3 coach (or otherwise) recruit what they see so don't lose too much sleep over what something says on paper.  The coach will use his own evaluation to make a decision.
