The three division winners and the two best teams that did not win their division make the playoffs. With that criteria, how do they not deserve to be in the playoffs?

They deserved to be where they are.
So we agree that the Cardinals did in fact DESERVE to be in the playoffs.

I love when people hate the teams I pull for. I really do. Nobody hates losers. But the constant complaining and whining about what the Cardinals have done and being the second wild card is beyond ridiculous. (and this really isnt aimed at just you biggerpapi)

5 teams in each league make the playoffs. The Cardinals were the 5th, not the Cubs, not the Astros. The Braves could have won that game too. They "were 8 games better". Kris "never loses" Medlin starting for them. They even got the game at their home ball park in front of 26,437 of their fans. But the Braves, playing under the same rules as the Cardinals, lost.

The team with the best record doesnt always win it all, or even win anything in the playoffs.

Alright, chill out there, Fredbird.

In previous posts, I have indicated that I like the Cardinals. This has nothing to do with the actual Cardinals, it has to do with my dislike for the rule.

I'm sorry that you took this so personally. Please give my best to the rest of the Busch family.

biggerpappi has stated many times that he likes the Cardinals. His complaint is with a rule and not a franchise. I agee that I don't like the rule. We then have to ask what the purpose is of this rule? That's simple, the powers that be didn't want a wild card team to advance in the playoffs and reference the Cardinals multiple times. So, the easiest thing to do is to develop this rule so that the #1 of both wildcard teams is expended. Thus that team is at a distinct disadvantage.

Having said all of that, every MLB team knew the rules as they applied to the Wild Card Teams. Therefore, all teams had the opportunity to advance should they garner either wildcard slot. Within that context, any team that advances does deserve to be where they are. The Cardinals didn't have the pitching rotation as they would like it but competed. The Nationals were one of the top teams in baseball per their regular season record. They had homefield advantage. They didn't produce this time. Who knows, maybe if they played this series 10 times, the Nationals might win 9 of them. However, when it counted, the Cardinals won. The Giants are the favorite in the NLCS. Giant fans should be excited that they get to play the wild card Cardinals instead of the Nationals. IMO, this is exciting baseball and I look forward to this series. As a die hard Cardinal fan, my team has already achieved more than many expected. Everything from here on in is icing on the cake. Now, we have to keep the rain away this week. GO CARDINALS!
Using the word "deserved" was wrong. They deserved their spot just as much as the Nationals did. If I took your post he way it was written instead of what you meant then I apologize.

Holliday deserves to get hit, but he won't as long as it is close. I hope they would hit him and give him a free base. They should take out our middle infielder if given a chance.
...and this is the best umpires we have? In the replay of the tag after Jay's catch the ump is clearly staring at the play and does not see the tag. This is not a tough play. It won't cost the Cardinals anything because they are not competiting tonight. Still, this was obvious.

Wow, Freese or Kozma blow a popup. The wheels are falling off.
