Stopping the ball with the catcher's mask

NFHS Rule 8-3-3
a defensive player may not touch a pitch with detached equipment.

Penalty: Each runner receives a two base award, measured from the time of the touch.

Under NFHS rules , you award the runner 3rd.....

In a game played under OBR or NCAA rules, the award is one base so the runner would get 2nd.

Don't do that! Ouch!

Thanks for bringing it up I was mistakenly thinking it was the same for both OBR & FED:
1 base for pitched ball
2 bases for a thrown ball
3 bases for a batted ball

Never seen it happen, but good to shake off the rust.
