My second time through with my younger son (9U) and thought I had seen it all or most anyway of stupid things coaches will have their players do to win or get an advantage.
We're in a tournament playing on a softball/baseball field and the infield is all dirt with a temp mound. Wind is howling straight in and occasionally the hitters and the catcher will ask for time due to blowing sand in their eyes, no problem.
later I notice the opposing pitcher "dressing up" the dirt ten feet in front of the mound with our leadoff in the box. Seemed odd but did not really register.
later still our 1B coach comes back to our 3B dugout and says he hears the coach instructing his pitcher to do this to create a cloud of dust that will hopefully impair our hitters vision.
I said hummm that's freakin unbelievable. Then later in the game their relief pitcher does the same routine and I approched the ump complaining loudly, their coach comes running out with a "who me/ do you really think i would do that look on his face"
small brouhaha and the umpires put a stop to it and the games continues and we win.

My faith in human beings took a momentary hit.

What shenanigans have you seen stupid coachess do?

--One opposing team (at 14 U level)would get a runner on third, then the coach would give a signs, as our pitcher would start the windup, the batter would call time out, hoping to cause a balk. Then if the umpire would grant it, the coach would go ballistic as it should be a balk. I thought I was catching his signs doing it, then I noticed him doing it again in the next game against a different team. The coach complained and the same umpire threw him out.

--Same team would try this, first and third, it seems every team will steal second and most defenses wont throw down as the runner on third will score. Anyway, he had this situation against us and the guy takes off to steal. We let him go, but the runner gets within 10 feet of second and stops, hoping to draw a throw. So my pitcher just stood there staring at him for about 30 seconds and did nothing. Finally I yell, we got two outs get him. Pitcher throws to short stop who gets the ball and tags him before runner scores. Coach had a sign for that also.

Just wish people would teach the game the right way.
