Okay I would just like some opinions of this at the high school level. I know its not a very wise play but what are the proper things to do if put in this situation.
OK. 1 Out. Runners at 2nd and 3rd a count on the batter 1 ball 2 strikes. The suicide Squeeze play is called batter stands and takes strike 3. Runner from 3rd on way. Catcher catches the ball and runs toward runner into the base line. Runner protects his right arm and runs through catcher. Catcher has both glove and ball hand in front of runner which sends him spinning and looses helmet and glove. Meanwhile batter is still standing at plate.
Runner still on the grass not in the circle so no chance of sliding or stopping.
Catcher never falls down and proceeds to throw ball at the runner on his way back to the dugout.
Not sure how to upload video but the play is posted on utube.comWhat should Call BE?
Just looking at this play as a safety issue could have been much worse. No one got hurt in this play.
Just would like some opinions. In normal play it looks bad but in slow motion it does not.

I agree now how do you teach the runner how to run in this situation without having the malicious contact called? Also without runner getting injured or anyone else.
Personally I hope I NEVER SEE this situation again but just incase.
Too many things that could go wrong with a Suicide Squeeze Bunt Play. Should be banned from High School Baseball.
Such as this one that did not happen the right way.

If we are going to use this criteria, pack it up.. the game of baseball and the game of football (as well as many others) are over as we know it.

The runner didn't even attempt to avoid contact. He had plenty of opportunity to do so.
BBMom,
I don't see how the contact in the Utube video is particularily related to a suicide squeeze play. The same relationship of catcher and runner could occur on many kinds of plays.

The runner simply needs to slow down, and avoid the catcher. In the Utube video, the catcher has time to receive the pitch, and run up the baseline toward the oncoming runner. That's plenty of time for the runner to recognize the situation and slow down, try to avoid, etc. Instead he tried to run over the catcher. That's allowed in MLB, but nowhere else. The ball beat the runner to the plate by a large margin, and the runner either needs to accept that he is out, or try to reverse direction and escape a run down.

Some situations involving runners and fielders are unavoidably dangerous; this isn't one them.

See 3FG's response. That sums it up for me. In this video, the runner lowered his shoulder. That makes it very easy for me. Done for the day.

As Bulldog said, if we're going to ban all potentially harmful plays from high school sports then pack it up.

Next at bat, that runner will get a stiff fastball between the numbers, and that'll be that.....uh oh, is that a whole other can of worms? Eek

Under fed rules and after watching the video, I am with Dash and MST..the runner is out and ejected for malicious contact, and if the catcher retaliates like you said then hes gone too....

I would like Thank everyone for there opinions. I believe Michael Taylor helped in how to explain to kid what to do in this situation if it ever occurs again. The kid just protected himself. And yes the catcher threw the ball at him sorry it not in the video. No he did not get ejected but its pass tense now.
Time to move on. I didn't really know I only watch MLB not high school ball.
