This site has been so informative. Our '05 son has received several letters from college coaches. After receiving the first few letters, and checking this site, we realized we needed to get more pro active so we put together a video, fact sheet and cover letter which we have sent to the colleges he received letters from, as well as several he would like to hear from. His GPA is 4.06 and he scored 27 on the ACT's and 1260 on the SAT's. We only just sent him to his first showcase, and he is not playing summer ball with a "high profile" team. He is playing summer ball with his high school team, and will also do fall ball with them as well. We will send him to another showcase in August but I'm thinking from the posts I've read on this site that we should have done more showcases sooner, and we should have kept him on a travelling team. We took him off tournament/travelling teams when he made Varsity. Did we mess up and if so...any suggestions? You know......you just think....the kid is good...he's smart....he'll go to college and play ball. We are learning that it's not that easy. Wish we had found this site a few years ago.

arizonared,
Welcome to the HSBBW. You’re feelings are pretty much normal. Everyone (myself included) is concerned if we’re doing enough of the right thing for our sons and their baseball. I think the general consensus, after all is said and done, is we usually have done more than enough. I personally think you’re fine. Please check out the recruiting timeline on the main website. It has some very good information. Recruiting Timeline I think you’re in good shape. Look at the recruiting process as an event much like baking a cake. You need a number of ingredients, combined in the proper manner, placed in a proper environment for everything to come together. If the recipe calls for two eggs, having two dozen isn’t necessary. If you’re supposed to beat the batter for three minutes, beating it for three hours doesn’t help. Same goes for the recruitment of your son. The three main ingredients are talent, exposure, and academics. Keep exploring the opportunities for exposing him to college coaches (showcases, letters, phone calls, etc.) Remember, it only takes one coach to make things happen. Again welcome to the HSBBW and best of luck to your son!

Thank you Fungo. I have the "Recruiting Timeline", and other articles from this site. They have been very helpful. Think the panic is setting in because of some of the articles I've read....and postings.....they have made me question if we are doing enough. We will do a showcase in August, and hope for the best. My son is such a good kid, works very hard and we want to do what we can to help him reach his goals.....and that's to go to college and play ball. Bet you have heard this many times, from many other parents! Thank you again for your kind words and advise.
