Hey guys, I am new to the forum and was told this is the best place to get answers especially when I don't want to call up his college coach! My son is a freshman right handed pitcher and his coach sent him to the South Florida Collegiate Baseball League (www.southfloridacollegiateleague.com). Apparently the players didn't have much of a say in where they go, but at least he's going to a nice area. He's playing for the Boca Raton Lightning in this league. My question is how do they determine playing time? Does his college coach handle that or does he have to earn it while he's there? I'm one of those parents who doesn't like to get involved with his coaches, I've been told that's a no no. Thanks for any help!

Welcome aboard bdoine, and congratulations to your son! Your Freshman getting placed on a summer team is a very good sign. There are more players seeking a spot than spots to be filled!
The coach of the summer team will handle playing time decisions. Often with regard to pitchers, the College Coach may request a pitch count for the player that he sent.
Boca is a nice area! Does he get a host family, or how are housing arrangements handled? I suppose a trip to the Sunshine State will be in order this summer. Enjoy!
Thank you for the advice and yes I will without a doubt be coming down for the parents weekend. As far as housing goes the players stay at the Marriott (wish I was a kid again!!) He's getting a meal plan with the housing, it's a really nice set up!
That is one of the best arrangements I have ever heard of! Your son will have a blast!
I think so! It's going to be a great experience playing with kids all around the country. They have players from all over.
