As is often the case, it's best to rely on those of you that have been there.

My son's summer schedule is finally complete and includes tournaments and a couple of showcases.  He had planned to email this to a few college coaches, but here's my question.  He will be attending a D1 camp, about 60 miles from home, during the summer.  Initially I told him to include it on the schedule, for some unknown reason.

Is this something that my son should include and email to those other coaches?  Or only to the coach of the college camp that he will be attending?

If he has already sent the email to the coaches, I wouldn't worry about it. If he hasn't, then I don't think including it would be harmful. Coaches are well aware of other clinics/showcases and that players are looking at various schools and I'm certain that their knowledge of him attending other events wouldn't be an issue.

There's a part of me that wonders if including mention of the camp, especially to the coach of a conference foe, results in someone taking a look.  Just curious about that part of their business.

I'd probably say no, especially because you're very early in the process right now. I would guess that coaches don't base their recruiting efforts on the efforts of opponents - but that's not my forte, so I can't be sure. Prepster or infielddad would be the members to hit up here for that type of info.

Ah, the burdens of having a coach for a son. Right, infielddad?!

Off the top of my head, I'd say that JH is right...that it doesn't hurt to reference the other school's camp. However, since the principal purpose of the email ought to be to let various coaches know where they can see your son, my advice would be to limit it to showcases/tournaments/clinics that are accessible to the recruiters who are on the receiving end of the email.

Best wishes to your son!
