Just wondering what the prevailing insights here are for a situation where an '06 player (17 years old) may have an opportunity to play for one of the following.. (but not all 3)

(a) A Local Legion team (somewhat competitive) not located in a very large geographic area. (Former legion team was dissolved, so this would be a new team)

(b) An 18U Select team that plays in a larger metro league AND also travels to 4-5 major wood bat tourneys along the East Coast

(c) Summer college-age team that will take a few HS players and give playing time. Again, located in a Large metro area. Team needs players in 06's position.

It seems to me... Option A would be more relaxed, providing a nice respite before perhaps a more intense Fall. Option B seems to maximize exposure immediately but may be too intense coming right off a competitive HS season. Option C is really intriguing because of the opportunity "play up" at a collegiate level while still in HS. Both options B and C would require more travel since we do not live immediately in the large metro areas. I see risks and rewards to each, but thought I'd throw it out for other insights / angles. All seem viable.

Thanks much
Bob

Based on your options here is my opinion.

I'd say B because the summer between your junior and senior years is the most important for your son to play on a team where he can get the most exposure. If I was in your area I'd want to check out Mike Mannings All-Star Baseball team. If he can get on a team of that caliber its a no-brainer to play select ball.

Legion won't get him the exposure. And the college league sounds more like Stan Muscial. It probably is not the best college players because they will all be playing in official NCAA sanctioned leagues - high school players are not allowed in those leagues. So the seriousness of playing up may be questionable and the colleges won't be attending those games.

Feel free to contact me if you have questions about a certain team in your area.
