Last night while watching a local high school game, the game was delayed due to lightning. After a delay of a half hour or so it was beginning to get dark and lightning was still a threat. The game was in the top of the 6th inning and the coaches agreed to suspend the game and finish it at a later date.

Question: Is this a regulation game or do they have the option of finishing it?

Please site a rule number if you have one.

Thanks in advance.

The answer is maybe. It is a regulation game after 5 innings (4 1/2 if the home team is ahead). The game is over and the score would revert back to the score after 5 innings, because the visitors were still batting in the 6th when the game was called (teams must have equal at-bats unless the home team is ahead). FED Rule 4-2-3

However, FED allows individual states to adopt their own game-ending procedures, which might differ from FED.
4-2-4
