They dropped football a few years ago because professors and students didn't like the idea of lowering standards for football players. They were letting slackers in with 1450 SAT scores. One of the top liberal arts schools in the country.

The school is in a nice area about 30-40 minutes from downtown Philly and Penn.
RightyShortstop "committed"(you never know for sure until you get the acceptance letter) to Swarthmore which he picked over Ivy, Patriot and several D3 opportunities. PM me and I can tell you everything about the process, coach, team, and school. However, in the end it was between SWAT and an IVY. Chose SWAT for:
-87% Med school acceptance rate
-Individual academic attention
-Less travel in Conference than Ivy
-Coach EXETER!
-Opportunity to make a difference right away in a program on the upswing

Coach Exeter did tell son that he was heading to florida last weekend to look for pitching. How was HeadFirst? We really like those guys. My son hopes your son throws really hard!
Coach Exeter was one of the truly great people 4thGen and I met in his recruitment process. The facilities were top notch for a DIII. The professor to student ratio was the best I've ever heard of. The campus is beautiful and the academic reputation is wonderful. I would not however expect admissions to lower their standards for an athlete. The AD is encouraging Coach to submit kids that are in range but the first seven kids he submitted a couple of years a go were not admitted. Also, you want to be sure your son will be a fit with the culture which is ultra-liberal. Overall, it could be a great college baseball experience. I’d also suggest that if you’re looking at Swarthmore, you might want to consider Haverford as well.

When my dauughter and I took a tour of a northeastern elite private college we were told the school teaches students to forget all the values taught by parents and learn to think for themselves. We didn't finish the tour. We weren't the only ones. What's taught is liberal indoctrination.

He also mentioned that you could take classes at Penn and Haverford, and still get credit for Swarthmore.

This is true, and you can toss in Bryn Mawr.

The idea is that one doesn't have to attend a mega-school to access to a broad and high-end curriculum.

Its quite the academic bundle.

Penn is IVY + top 4 in National universities in US News & World Reports.

Swat + Haverford perennially rank top-10 among Liberal Arts schools. Bryn Mawr is top-25.

Swarthmore's probably a great place to play baseball and earn a degree. The coaching staff seems enthusiastic; the one I've talked with the most, Coach Tischler, is a really nice and energetic guy.

One thing that slightly perplexed me, though: they're arguably tied for most selective LAC in the nation and yet they began showing interest in me as a player when I was still a HS sophomore - very high GPA but no SATs at that time to show that I was going to be truly qualified for the school. So I would not be surprised to know that they do lower requirements for baseball players.
