Let me tell you guys, this is really bad for our team...we have 1 district game left and have to wait til May 12 to play it. It was suppose to be tomorrow. Then the playoff starts 8 days after that. 20 days, 1 game then playoffs....We work all year to keep guys in game shape and now we are basically shut down for 20 days...unreal...just wait..schools and the rest of the season are next

Our playoffs start Saturday in AZ. Every kid with the sniffles is rumored to have "THE SWINE FLU". My son texted me today because some kid was sick at school and they thought she might have "IT". There are 3,000+ students at the school. I would be willing to bet at any given point in time, somebody is sick with something.
The flu is very hard on the weak (small children, elderly, weak immune system, etc). I think the average ball player would be down for a couple of days, tops. We clearly need to protect against the spread of this, but it's a shame that the media hype for this has gone out of control.
Remember the bird flu a few years ago? How many people got sick? 2?
The only thing I can say is, whatever situation you're in, so is everyone else. You've prepared your kids all season for adversity. This is just a different kind.

The Govinator of California is trying to use the swine flu as a reason to vote for his tax increases that he claims are controls on government spending. The Golden State already has one of the highest tax rates in the country except for maybe New York. It never fails that when the government wants to raise taxes they threaten to layoff teachers, then police and firemen before cutting truly unnecessary programs first.

thats what i told our guys...champions will play. Doesnt matter the situation, we will be ready when all this is over.
at first, they cancelled all regional track meets...and they would take top 4 times from each region. Media got a hold of this then the stories started coming out. One kid was up by 15 meters, slowed up and then this happens...he didnt have a top 4 time....but he was the defending state champ...so they changed it and the regionals are back on...in 3 weeks...track season has lasted since JAN!

My sons baseball team is not able to play this weekend because a student might have Swine Flu. Sad thing is they won't know when they will reopen school. They can't even practice.
This strain of the swine flu appears to be less fatal than the normal seasonal flu. More people die on an annual basis from the regular seasonal flu.
