Update if anyone cares. Last weekend out of 34 innings played only 7 at short. The rest were outfield and pitching. D junior is going to ask the coach if he can get more infield in practice and the games because he is losing his touch. Side work only goes so far. It was a tough decision for D junior but he is tired of the outfield. One more tournament over Thanksgiving. If nothing changes, current team will be missing a number 1'ish starter and the number 3 hitter come Dec. 1.
Hustle never has a bad day.

I don't understand what is wrong with playing outfield. It may make him more ready to win a high school position early on. As a freshman or a sophomore I think most kids would rather be the starting leftfielder than back up to Mr Senior Shortstop.

Life goes on. Baseball doesn't end.

A SVP once made this comment to me at dinner when a rising star corporation was raiding our company promising greener grass. "Losing a star is like punching your fist in a bucket of water. The water ripples. A little goes over the edge. But eventually the water settles and the team fights on. There isn't a person in this company from the receptionist to the CEO we can't overcome losing." It applies to sports too, at every level.

I can't remember what your son's situation is, but if he is truly the best shortstop on his current team and is not playing there, my guess is that one of the coach's sons plays shortstop. If this is the case, the six innings out of 34 innings they gave your son at shorstop last weekend were probably just to make you happy. If a coach's son does play ss, the situation will probably not change in the near future. Hitting in the three hole I would think means he can hit a little too. In my opinion, you have to do what you feel is right for your son. If you can find him another team where he can play ss and the team plays comparable or better competition, I'd do it. Just my opinion...
He is not having fun. Frown

He has played a lot of outfield over the last 5 years and started playing SS last year and thinks it is the best place on the planet. We were told it was open competition and none of the coaches kids played SS. The team he is on is very good!

He is an excellant outfielder but he wants to play SS or third. The coaches son's now occupy 2nd, ss, and third. It didn't start out like that. Two other very good players have already left

One more tournament. In HS you play where you are put, but in youth with 70+ teams out there, a kid has some options.
