So here is another question that I have. This actually happened to me. It was during a 15 year old summer ball tournament, we were using HFHS Rule. So the batter hit a ball in the air to the warning track in left field. The left fielder runs back and does a Willie Mays over the shoulder catch. Then continues to the run into the fence, mean while the runner at third as soon as he can't see the ball, takes of running to home. I have no signaled out yet, because I don't know if he has the ball, I'm standing at home plate. When does he have the right to leave 3rd base, when I call out and see that the left fielder has control or the runner at third no longer sees the ball?

On a fly ball, runners may leave their base at the time of the touch of the ball by the fielder. They do not have to wait for the final catch.
