I never played High School Baseball, simply because we don't have it where I live (Canada).

That being said all I ever played was Summer Ball, and even that wasn't what you would consider on 'elite' teams.

I managed to get a College Scholarship and interest from quite a few schools during my Senior year of HS.

And remember you can always try to walk-on to a team when you are in College. Our 'Pitcher of the Year' my Freshman year walked on and made the team that year.

Doc in the US there is more emphasis put on HS ball than here.
In our area there are 20+ HS teams but the games are not scouted by pros or college. When you get closer to Toronto and even Windsor the HS ball gets more attention. The HS championships are play in the Rogers Skydome and there is lots of press coverage by the TOronto Star etc.
I think HS in the US is not absolutly necessary but can be a big help. My son was invited to play senior year at a school in Georgia and we were all for it but he had already graduated here and the rules stated he must not have graduated in order to attend a US HS. He would have got a lot more exposure than here.
I think it is very important to play elite summer ball. The level of competition is very high and a better indicator of your level of play.

All I'm saying is it can be done, it just makes the whole process THAT much harder. I know there is a huge emphasis on HS ball in the States, but it has been done before.

Heck look at what happened in this years draft- taken in the 5th round by the Braves is a young man who is a quarterback on the U of O football team. He has not played baseball since high school.

I didn't know they had HS ball down round your area, I knew they had it in Windsor and TO.

Looking back on how things went for me, I wish I would of known more about elite ball up here, I never heard of anything other then the Badgers till I was out of HS. I do agree playing Elite Summer ball is important, especially if there's no HS ball.

Doc we have a great HS ball program and it is part of SOSA. I believe there are 27 teams in our distict. There are play offs that end up with the top teams playing the Prentice cup in the Skydome.
At one time the London Badgers were one of the top elite teams with several going in the ML draft. You are a little out of the way but some of the guys travel 100+ miles to play for a good team. The Elite BB has grown so much in the last 10 years due to demand for top level coaching but I am afraid the number of teams may have reduced the quality of some of the programs.
Windsor has some great ball players and last year held the senior COBA eliminations. It was full of ex pros and college guys. Windsor had a guy who just got released by thye Angels after 3 years and he had reached triple A. He was amazing and pitched a hut out against us and then thre a shutout in the championship game 2 days later.
Yes playing college can be done without HS ball in the US and it is harder. The guy you mentioned probably was scouted all through HS.

If you train and practice as much as you can, I'm sure you can make up for lost time. Remember that you don't need to go to a big time college. Go to a school that will give you more playing time, and maybe halfway you can transfer.

But don't forget to keep other windows open as well.

somerville you can go to the next level and play college if your good. a kid on my hs baseball team this year played a little his freshman year on varsity, but played no games his sophomore or junior year, but played the summer/fall going into senior year and got a large scholarship to a big name D1 school and ended up having an excellent senior year so if your a good player they will find you

oh yea and the reason he didnt play at those two seasons was due to a terrible foot injury so he was in sort of the same situation as u so anything can happen
