Taking out the catcher

Another incident today, catcher awaiting throw from outfield drifts up the line a couple of feet. Guy comes into catcher in upright position and takes him out. Does he not have to make some attempt, in HS play, to avoid this type contact? I know in the pros you can send him home on a stretcher, so what is the correct call here?
