In NFHS the rule is that the pitcher must take his sign from the catcher while on the pitchers plate....the penalty for not doing so is a balk/ball to the batter.......(rule 6-1-1)
In OBR the pitcher must take his sign while on the pitchers plate.....but no penalty......(rule 8.01)
Now to application.......I dont go looking for this....in NFHS this is a technical balk.....keep those to a minimum and call the more procedural balks....
The intent of the "take signs from the rubber" rule is to prevent the quick pitch. If F1 isn't quick-pitching, he can take signs from the coach, his Mom or God in heaven for all I care.
