Are any college players being placed on TCL teams? That would be a good indicator.

The boys we know who played there last summer are being placed somewhere else. Also heard that the Cape Cod League and Northwoods have even more players to choose from this year, due to the TX league boys looking for new teams. Anyone know for sure?

Contracts are being signed right now.
In DMN today it says TCL will play this summer with 4 teams. Brazos Valley, McKinney, Coppell & Wichita Falls. That will be a long season of travel and pretty boring facing the same 3 teams over and over won't it? I'm disapointed my son played TCL last year and it was great for us because his team played 25 mins from our house. Looks like this summer we won't be so lucky. Bummer for baseball people all around the dfw area.
Hintite,
I assume that you go by the name of Debby Downer in your real life. Presumably, you would prefer that your son play in the Jayhawk League, or the Northwoods League, or some other far off league where you would NEVER see him play nor have any CHANCE to see him play.

This is an exciting announcement from the TCL. Many people worked long and hard to make this happen for the players in the state of Texas. I, for one, am grateful to those men for making this happen so that my son will be "at home" this summer.

If you are naive enough to believe that the league will stay a four team league for long, you probably don't have any business commenting about it in the first place.

Hope your rant at me made you feel better. I was just passing along the latest news and offering my comment. Sorry if I struck a nerve. I hope the league does find some more owners who are willing to pay the price to field a TCL team and more boys are given the opportunity to play. If not then I would rather my son go out of state and play against more than 3 teams all summer. But it's not up to me; It's really up to his coaches and I trust they'll place him in the league best suited for his development.
Hintite,
It is not a rant. In my opinion, you took a positive situation for the players in the State of Texas and turned it into a negative by the use of the words "long... boring... disappointed... won't be so lucky... bummer" In my dictionary those words have a negative connotation and I believe this is an extremely positive outcome as opposed to the alternative that the league was facing.
Uncle E- you must be very close to a good source of information. I agree with Debbie Downer and so will your son after he spends long bus rides playing outside of the metroplex. He must be playing in Coppell or McKinney becasue I can't imagine any player wanting to play in Brazos Valley or Wichita Falls with all travel. You should provide a sponsorship for these great men that are spending $$$$$ for your son to play this summer.
The Texas Collegiate League was an awesome opportunity for my son, and many others, now in minor league baseball.

The summer league is an important step in the career ladder of baseball by providing a transition from college into professional baseball.

It was and it wouldn't surprise me that the great men, that I know, continue to to spend $$$$$ for talented young men to continue to hone their skills.

From those of you in little league looking up, that are critical of the facilities, the travel, and the long hot summer in Texas, you should know that the TCL is opportunity knocking on your door.

If you don't like the facilities, the travel, and the long hot summer in Texas, you won't like the facilities, the travel, and the long hot summer in Vancouver, British Columbia; Kane County, Illinois; Stockton, California; Midland, Texas; or Sacramento, California, either.

You would probably, however, like the facilities, the travel, and the long hot fall at Papago Park in Phoenix, Arizona.

The Papago Park facilities in Phoenix, Arizona are probably more similar to what you are accustomed to in Little League.

My son, Uncle Ethan and his son, was/are smart enough to answer the door............

My son also played in the TCL this past summer for the McKinney Marshals and it was a great experience. We were fortunate that he was able to play close to home so that we could see all the games. It was sad to hear about all the TCL problems but am glad that everything has been resolved. Even though there are only 4 teams now, there will undoubtedly be 9-10 before it's all said and done. My son's goal was to get invited to play in the Cape Cod league next summer and he has already signed a contract. Yes, he will be a long way from home and living with a host family but that experience will be priceless. But if he weren't going to the Cape I know he would have liked to return to the Marshals. Bottom line, the players who have aspirations to play beyond college gain tremendous experience from playing in these leagues and the travel, long days, etc are all part of baseball.
