TCU's baseball program is consistently among the top 20-25 in the country. This year was the first year the team made super regionals, although it was certainly capable of doing so in the past.
Coach Schlossnagle is known to be pretty tough on his players, but I recall reading an article about two TCU players who referred to him as a "player's coach" and said they were the only two on their summer college woodbat team who actually liked their head coach.
TCU's baseball facilities are top-notch and games have sizeable crowds (although nowhere near LSU's average of 9,000 per game!). Games are usually broadcast online with live commentary. The school has a very large study facility for its athletes with a dozen or more small rooms on the periphery for individual tutoring. Athletes are required to turn in their cell phones when entering the facility to keep the focus on studying. There is quite a bit of academic support for athletes, including study tables on buses, on-line notes, etc.
The school itself, with about 7,000 undergrads, is in a beautiful part of Fort Worth and students tend to be upper-middle class. There is a huge emphasis on Greek life, although most athletes are not in fraternities. The football team is very strong and lots of folks like to tail-gate before and during games. The campus is constantly being updated and there is a gorgeous new student center and quad area, plus a state-of-the-art student fitness center. Also lots of beautiful flower plantings, wrought iron gates and fences, trees, etc. Increasing numbers of students are now required to live on campus, which makes students feel more a part of the school.
Academics are excellent and the undergraduate business and communications schools are very strong.
Fort Worth is a fun college town with a vibrant downtown scene and a big Western influence, especially in the Stockyards.
