Hello. I am an '06 and just received an invitation today for a TeamOne showcase this summer in Cinncinnati.

Could anyone please give me some information regarding these showcases and whether they may be worth attending? I have been invited to attend other showcases but need to be selective due to the cost and time away from my summer team.

Unbaised opinions please but I realize that is almost impossible.
Thanks.

My son attended the one in Atlanta last year;unfortunately, he had a sprained ankle from the night before. He attempted BP, but had to quit. He still got a letter from a coach that had seen him there and at the WWBA tournament the week before. Team ONe said that he would be able to come back the next year, prepaid.

There were at least 150 college and pro scouts sitting behind homeplate for the showcase BP. I would recommend going to that showcase. You should also try to get to one of the WWBA tournaments in Atlanta. Good luck.
We PAID to attend a Team One Tryout in October with the guarantee that we would be notifyed personally by phone, by the director, with an evaluation and a decision on making the team, within 4-6 days. After calls and emails, it is April and still have not heard from them. I think that it is important that you understand that if they do not honor their committment to you, there is nothing you can do. On the other hand, I attended the tryout because of the good reputation the organization had. The other kids there were mediocre at best.
Perfect Game showcases are the absolute best if you have limited resources and want to get the biggest bang for your buck. Private message PGStaff on this site for more info...

BTW, I have NO biased view on this, since we found out about PG too late in the process for my son. As you can see, I am a "HSBBWeb Old Timer," and have heard nothing but kudos and positives for PG over the years.

Also, since you are in my territory (I am from Cleveland), contact TRhit (Tom Rizzi) for info on his CollegeSelect showcases. Tom has helped MANY in the northeast find the right college/baseball fit. No personal experience there, either, except that I've "known" him on the boards for years, too.

That being said...TeamOne isn't bad, either....

Hope that helps. Smile

Interesting comment made about parents "trashing showcases whose kids don't get invited". Parents need to know before they pay money to an organization that they may not even get a response after a try out. My disappointment was not in my son "not getting invited", but that he was never NOTIFIED that he did not. After the tryout, we never heard from Team One again.

Surprising how much parents trash Showcases whose kids dont get invites

Dibble, Never could figure out why son was never invited after tryout either. Was never told. We just moved on and did some other things with Perfect Game and Blue-Grey. I would guess it was just their opinion.
Things may have changed since my son attended both Perfect Game and TeamOne showcases in summer of 2003. At that time there were no tryouts, he recieved an invitation and attended. Both events were well run with many scouts in attendance. Both PG and T1 provided what they said they would, a well run showcase and opportunity to play in front of many pro scouts and college coaches
My son is an '06 RHP and was invited last summer to T1 event at Georgia Tech. He received an overwhelming amount of letters from D1 colleges afterwards. He's been attending "JR. Days" also as a result of attending the showcase. There were a lot of recruiters/scouts there. He is attending again this year as a senior. We've been invited but have been unable to attend a Perfect Game event but I understand they are great too. We have done the WWBA tournaments. My friends son also went to a try-out for T1 showcase. She was told the same info, that they would be in touch within 2 weeks. After 2 months she emailed Jeff Spelman about invitations in the South and he said they were behind but will be going out very soon. My son didn't attend a try-out last year but received his invitation in May. I'm sure their intentions were good when they said they would be in touch that quickly, who knows, but if you get invited, I would go.

Try emailing Jeff Spelman directly at jspelman@teamonebaseball.com

Good Luck
I definately agree that any good exposure is a plus. I would not feel comfortable investing any large fees with T1. A parent/athlete should get whatever is promised them when they sign up. T1 guarantees feedback- either good or bad. If a Showcase or Tryout emphatically states that they will be in touch in 2 weeks with feedback, then that needs to happen. It's a matter of principle. A coach holds an AAU tryout, tells the kids he will get back with them in a week and let them know if they made the team, then he needs to call and say, "sorry son" to those that don't make the cut. It's courtesy, its integrity, it's doing what you say you will do.
