A West Texas student [Permian] who led his high school basketball team to the state playoffs last season was actually a 22-year-old man.

Police say the basketball star was really Guerdwich Montimere, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Haiti who school officials say was recognized last month by Florida coaches as having been a star high school player in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., a few years ago.

Could this happen in baseball?

Didn't it happen in LL with Alm**te (name altered to protect the child) years ago. While his real age was not as significantly different than his "posted" age, it went to show that with a little manipulation of records anything can happen. Besides Pro baseball is the most notorious of any sport when it comes to the actual ages of many foreign born players.

Lets see, we have evidence of it happening in LL, we have evidence of it happening in the pros....

What levels are between them? HS maybe?

Simple deduction indicates this may have already happened

This is the same school the famous football book and series, "Friday Night Lights" is based on, correct?
Lots of community pressure in that town to perform in sports. The news release indicates authorities are going after the player because he is an adult (22 year old) and that the school admin had no idea. I really think the authorities need to hold the school more accountable. I mean, did this kid attend classes in the Fall leading up to basketball season? Was a 22 year old convict (He has a history) sitting next to 16 year old youths in class???

My son read that story and the first thing he said was, "Wow, I'll be graduating college at that age. I wonder if my high school would let me come back and play high school ball after 4 years of college if I claim I'm homeless."
Yes, Odessa Permian is the same school. Lots of pressure in that town to win but multiply that by dozens in Texas and you see how this can occur. All it takes is a coach willing to look the other way or cover things up and there you have it. Don't know if its that way everywhere but it seems especially in Texas that a town is sometimes measured by how often its teams win football championships. I live close to a 2A and a 3A school that have been perennial champions since the early 1970's and I think these towns and certainly their fans get a lot of their self respect from this fact. Sometimes this can lead to abuses if you get a coach in there under extreme pressure to win. For the most part, in these two towns I think things have been on the up and up so far as I know.
