A classy draft selection by the Texas Rangers....

In the 33rd Round, the Texas Rangers selected Georgia outfielder Johnathan Taylor who was left partially paralyzed by a collision during a game this past season.

That is so neat. It says we like you and we are hoping that some day you can come play with us.

My son's Clemson teammate, Stan Widman was drafted late round (by the Rangers in 2007 I think).

Stan was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, in the fall of 2006, the tumor in his neck had to be replaced by a steel plate. He did get cleared to play that fall after his draft, but eventually gave up the game.

I love this stuff!

I had mentioned this story in another thread about the draft and kids getting picked as favors. I was going to start a thread on just Johnathan Taylor here in the general section until I did a quick search and found this one.

We would all love for our boys to have been drafted even though they are not all blue chippers, and will not make major league clubs. Yet this young man who will never play was drafted by the Rangers, and it could not have been a better thing to do. Here is a link with video clip;

From what I've read in several articles it meant the world to him, and he richly deserved it for his courage.

I've always been ambivalent toward the Rangers, but once Nolan took over I started to follow them more. Now I have another reason to support them.
