Top performances during north scrimmage.

As far as Pitchers go take your pick. Some were better than others, but all were 86-93mph. I won't single any out because not many kids get any hits because the pitching is so good at these type of events. It's always interesting to see which hitters can rise to the top and perform on this kind o stage against professional level pitching.

As far as position players go....4 stood out at the plate. Gideon, Rogers, martinelli, with honerable mention going to palmiero. Farthest hit was probably a tie between Gideon or Rogers right around 415 ft. Rogers probably had the best overall day as far as defense, sb, hitting xtra based etc. Martinelli ran the fastest 60 at 6.67 and hit really well as well.
Mahones had a great day running the bases.

Outside of these, it was pretty much a bunch of strikeouts and pop ups. Gideon, martinelli, an Rogers I believe all went 3-4.

I'll update the south In a bit.

More info....The team were broken into areas. The North and the South. The North did not play the South. Each area was then divided into two teams, so the North had two teams and the south had two teams. One of the North teams played the other North team, starting at 8 AM - 11am. After the scrimmage they were done and could go home. The south team then scrimmaged each other starting at 1pm until about 4 or so.

Schedule of events for each area.
1st = Run 60
2nd = Every pos player had a BP session
3rd = Warmup and take infield
4th = Scrimmage

I believe the Scrimmage was I think every pitcher got to face about 5 batters or three outs. So essentially every pitcher got about an inning in and then they switched.
Standouts for each area. Just my oppinion, but these kids had the best day for there area. Several others stood out as well. The kids below crushed the ball, as well as played defense, run, great bp..etc.

North = Rogers - Crushed one about 415-420'. Hit multiple out during BP.
South = Taccolini - Hit a bomb about 430' or so. Almost hit the tracks on the train!

All of this will be interesting to look back on in a year or two and see how it went. The main thing was I just wanted to write this stuff down for reference/info so i'll know next year.

The dinner will be a crash course on what to expect leading into the draft process.  Facts about it all.  From a scouts perspective.  There will be scouts talking and explaining the process.  How it really works.  The event is to give scouts a sneak peak on what they can expect going into 2014.  A "follow list" per se.

Have your son prepared to ask questions.  That will show scouts maturity and interest.

But as a parent, you can ask too.

In the end, a good rule of thumb is this...

If you have a genuine interest, let scouts know that.  Don't leave a shadow of a doubt.  That will attract them.  So many use the college card for leverage.  That can back fire.

When I think back, the ones that made it clear they were signing if they got the chance...increased their stock.

Scouts want to fight for guys that want to go out and play.  If they are unsure, they will spend their time on those that make it clear early.

Just about every pro scout in Texas will be there.  Some cross checkers and maybe even some scouting directors.
