I was surprised to learn from my son last night that texting is now allowed for recruiting after he received a text from a coach he has been talking to since the Fall.

After checking out the NCAA website, I found out that is was decided earlier this week, was effective immediately, and limited to D3 schools.

Considering that texting is one of the primary methods of communicating for this generation, that should make things more comfortable for some kids (mine included).

Not so long ago the big concern was with the sheer volume of texting charges parents were seeing on their monthly bills.

These days that seems quaint, since more and more people have unlimited texting plans.

The clerk at the wireless store offered to 'upgrade' my family plan. I agreed and he made the changes. However, he forgot the 'unlimited texting' for $5/month. Two weeks later I happen to check my bill online and had over $1000 in text charges!! Eek

A quick call got it fixed but, needless to say, I was one unhappy camper for a few minutes...
