As temperatures start to dip, opportunities for baseball activities start to dwindle. How do the coaches/players here deal with Illinois' treacherous winters in regards to baseball training? I see a pitching coach once a week during the offseason but at the very least its imperative to play catch in between sessions, and that gets very hard to do once the snow/ice/below freezing temperatures arrive. I was curious as to what others did at this difficult time for baseball.

You have to find facilities and enough people that want to practice that can make it worthwhile. Personally, I have my own gym since I am a coach and teacher and so, my kid can throw and hit at any time. If fact, I'm so proud of her. She threw today both overhand and underhand (pitcher) without pain. She's been on the DL for some time and so was giddy when the trainer told her tonight was the night. Still, having mentioned that, we anticipate going out until it is below 40. Today the wind was so strong. She will play at 40 next spring. You guys up north will as well. The diamonds should be decently dry so that you can get work in. Really, it's about deciding the difference between excuses and reasons. Good luck!
