we were at a one day camp this past Sunday. Nice school and what appears to be a good program. They practice in a big indoor gym (looks like 4 indoor tennis courts).
I was very impressed with the coaching staff. The hitting instructor talked alot about staying back and not lunging. The catching coach was a blast and gave alot of great tips/advice. The head coach gave a nice talk about recruiting, what he looks for in a player, etc.
I was suprised that this is that tough of a school. He said the average HS GPA was 3.8 and the avg SAT was over 1300. His main competition was Princeton, Lafayette, Lehigh, not Rutgers. He also talked about interviewing players, and that if they don't show respect (dress well, firm handshake, look you in the eye, knowledge of the program), then he won't bother with them.
Then they ran through a similated practice that was very impressive. All the players were there. Coach said that since they have such high academic standards, he doesn't get the best players, so their edge is that they 1)are stronger 2) will out-hustle you, and 3) bring more passion than the competition.
They are ranked #14 in pre-season polls, so they must be doing something right.
Thoughts??
