There was a recent discussion on outfielder's footwork regarding the crowhop. Many suggested that the crow hop shouldn't really be a "hop", that is, leaping into the air. The leap will waste time and give runners that extra step or two, it's best if the OF just gets rid of the ball right away. I argued that the hop helped me "get ready" to throw mechanically and accurately and anything faster seemed to be a rush to me and I'd throw inaccurate. But know I'm beginning to wonder, should the vrow-hop just be more like an infielder's crow-hop, more like a foot shuffle? I used to play IF and always had good footwork there. So is the crowhop the same or almost the same for both fields?

I don't think the crowhop is really used create momentum. Say you're waiting under a fly ball. All you have to do is wait a few feet from where the ball will land. Then just run in and make the catch, there's your momentum. Getting ready to throw I agree, that's the idea behind the crowhop. As for a small leap do mean inbetween an infielders shuffle and the "leap" I'm talking about

And does anyone have any video clips or picture frames of an OF making a catch-and-throw, Ichiro, Mondesi, Vladimir?

One name, Ichiro Suzuki, he has mastered the crow hop, no one runs on him. Ive seen him throw the ball 250 feet on a line. Incredible!!! My opinion probably the best outfield arm in baseball. It all techinique for him.....well and a little god given talent. Million dollar arm. Watch him play. I alway amazed at his throwing ability. Unbelievable

Get a good pitch to hit!!!!
