Unfortunately, I'm an Angels fan so I no longer have solid ground to stand on as the Angels seem to be trying to become the Yankees of the west.

I was surprised to see alot of writers picked the Red sox to win the division.

HITTING--great starting lineup but not a deep bench---Bernie concerns me in CF and is Sheffield healthy ?

Catching--what do they do if Posada , who seems a bit overweight this year, goes down with injury

Lot of question marks--- at the end of the day I like Boston in AL East

Sheff and Bernie are another year older. The unit's 40 year old right knee is gimpy at best and you better hope and pray that Shemp Matsui doesn't trip on the clubhouse steps. He's the whole team. Giambi is off the juice now and AFraud and Capt. Intangibles show me nothing. Hear me? NOTHING!!

I'm not a Yankee fan but I'll take them to finish ahead of the Sox in the East. Loser buys the coffee if we ever run into each other (or whatever you want to drink within reason if the Sox win). The Sox are still a very good team but George will buy whoever the Yankees need down the stretch.

Out of cash? Wow...I would hope not. They sellout just about every night, have a great ballpark, and are the defending champs. Jeez...spend the money, raise ticket prices $10.00 and everyone will still come to the ballpark. They should have never let lowe or pedro go, great thing to re-sign Jason, and could have still had money to go after Beltran. I just don't like Manny in left field, brutal out there. Make him a DH. I would rather have ortiz at first, and manny DH. Just my opinion.

Don't see how anyone could not pick the yankees to win the division. Barring any unforseen injuries, how can they not win it. An all-star at every position, and a pitching staff from hell. Really suprised they didn't sign beltran and kick bernie to the curb, but that is another story. Don't think the Yankees have long though. Pitching staff is old, Sheff and Bernie can't have much longer, and NOTHING in the minor league system. But George will just keep buying and buying, and they remain in contention. If they stay healthy (who cares about brown), I see them winning maybe 105 to 108 games, easy. Too deep and too talented. Watch A-Rod have a big year, and Unit will win 25 easy. I hate the evil empire, but you can't argue with their talent. They have the best 25 in baseball no doubt. Only team who is scary like them, is St. Louis, and Boston showed their weaknesses in the series last year.

yeah -I'm sure every team in baseball would HATE to have the Yankees "lack of pitching depth."

The big question is- what small market pitcher is currently auditiong for his mid- season move to the Yankees?

And speaking of the other side of 40, if Schilling goes down, anybody like that Boston rotation??......

I have to say, even though the Red Sox lost 2 of 3, they showed me something in that series.

They're not going to give up that crown easily.

Its still early. Foulke gave up the walk off dinger in game 2, but Mo Rivera is a gas can anymore. They jumped on him with both feet twice. I hear he has tendinitis.

They can't trade prospects for more pitching, they already did that to get Loiza and Vasquez, and have no more prospects. To replace someone on the roster, they'll have to trade someone on the roster, or just buy a big contract, which is actually possible, but not preferable because you are at the other teams complete mercy.

Nobody really wants any of the Yankees big league contracts.

As any reader of moneyball knows , a pitcher can only get the ground balls. Whether or not those ground balls find holes beween fielders is out of their control. That's what happene dto Rivera.

Bill Veeck was right. The Red Sox are doing all they can to keep the riff raff out. They allow scalpers access to tickets by the fistfull that end up on Ebay for 10 times face value. Morons still get front row seats.

It doesn't make any difference what city we're talking about-I've seen them in NY, KC, St Louis, Chicago, Miami, Cleveland. The likelyhood of a fan crossing the line probably is higher in some cities more than others, but it could, and does, happen everywhere.

Keith Foulke is the most amazing picther in baseball. Boggles my mind how he gets batters out.
Last night 2 innings against the best lineup in baseball, behind in almost every count and he STILL gets them out.

In the last 5 years, he has the lowest ERA in the majors.

One thing that Sheffield said that should resonate with all of us, especially our young people: "I started to snap. But I thought about the consequences of what I was about to do and pulled back." I'm glad he did.

I dont know about others out there but I am tired of fans doing things such as this and getting away with it while the player takes the heat-- I am sure he will be the bad guy when the smoke clears and he will be a target in July when the Yanks return to Fenway

What wouyld you do in your office if a "wacko" came in--- Sheffield is in his place of business when on the field-- and he has no rights at all if he goes after the fan.

To me after watching it several times this is what I think happened. The man was trying to get the ball initially. When he saw that he couldnt reach it he saw Sheff right there. Instead of just pulling his arm back he took the opportunity to brush his hand against Sheffs face before pulling his arm all the way back. Sheffield did exactly what he should have done and that is nothing. Going after the guy would have been the wrong thing to do as we all know. Now what needs to be done to people who act like fools. Ban him for life from paid athletic events. Charge him with disorderly conduct and fine the **** out of him. If your going to hold the players accountable as you should you have to hold the fans accountable as well. These idiots that go to games and think that they are part of the actual game and want to be a part of what is going on on the field need to be dealt with in severe fashion. That is the only way you are going to stop it before something very bad happens. JMO
