Well first official college game is now in the books for my son. He was the starting catcher and they won against Vol State 10-8. He was 1 for 5.... Second game he DH and was 1 for 3, we lost 5-1.

The team looked pretty good considering yesterday was their first time on a field since the fall. They just have to get back in the swing of things.

All in all a good day for baseball and baseball fans!!! 14
This is probably going to sound like a yawner for most of you who are celebrating accomplishments on the college level, but here goes: My son made varsity as a soph. Yea! I'm so proud of him as he started out last year as the third-string JV catcher. He was the only kid on the team whose voice hadn't changed yet. Since then he has been working non-stop, played summer ball and on three fall-ball teams, got a few lessons and basically worked his duff off. Also he grew 5 inches Smile Had a few bumps along the way--one tryout for a local elite travel team was the most horrendous performance he's ever given (sick, sore-armed, nervous and his girlfriend dumped him the night before) but he picked himself up and made the squad for another team. Now all his hard work has paid off, and he's learned that determination, persistence, and the occasional lecture from mom can be good things. I'm so proud of him. Now I can breathe again. Smile

Well....I am quite proud of MYSELF as I survived my son's FIRST college baseball game via constant phone contact between my husband (who was at the game) and me (who had to stay home due to my two other kids' and their commitments!). My husband drove down to VA this morning fully anticipating watching two weekend games with my son sitting the bench, hopefully maybe getting a pinch hitting appearance or two. Guess what, the coach posted the starting lineup on the dug out....there was my son in right field (which he hasn't played since age 11! lol). Wish I could tell you all that he had a stellar breakout freshman performance. I'm just glad he didn't have any errors, strike out in all his plate appearances, or have something embarrassing happen like his pants falling down while in right field! lol. I can't even IMAGINE how nervous HE was considering "I" felt like I couldn't wander more than 5 feet from the bathroom the entire afternoon! lol. But, I'm so proud that he cracked the line up in his first game as a freshman, and got this one under his belt. On to bigger and better things. By the way....I'm out the door to buy some hair dye to hide all the additional grey that sprouted this afternoon! pull_hair
