It has been a while since I have posted on here, which is bad, but been busy with family and the stress of what our son has gone through this past year.  Originally he signed with a JUCO in GA, as a family we felt this was a good opportunity because one of his age, 17 graduated from high school(May Birthday), and the school was close to his grandfather in case he just needed a family member to visit.  He had 1 D-1 offer and another DII offer but as I said from the advice we received on here and other outside sources we felt it was best situation for him to attend a JUCO.

So before school starts the Head Coach leaves due to budget cuts at the school and they cut his pay.  We didnt think anything of it, stuff happens and coaches leave.  So the new coach comes in and brings in a new kid that plays the same position.  Well as I said stuff happens coaches will bring in kids they like, just more competition for our son.  So after the fall season the coach asks our son to redshirt, we were excited about that because of the age it would give him an opportunity to have a year getting used to college and mature more athletically so we were on board.  Son go to travel and catch bullpens which helped with his receiving and never played in the spring.  So after the season the coach has the end of year one on ones with each player.  He informs my son that he would recruited a couple more catchers and that he didnt have the money for him next year but he could walk on.  Son was crushed and didnt know which direction to go with it being May when the coach informed him of his decision.

Luckily with him being so young he had the chance to play in the WWBA 17 and 18U and some other tournaments.  We had him apply to school he was interested in because we knew it was very late in the game to get any sort of athletic money for 2013.  Just so happened a D3 school really liked what they saw and was ready to get him into school, and they were willing to let him play football as well.  Great he went on the visit and loved the school, so the next day he played in the CABA down in Charleston, SC.  And a D2 school fell in love with him and were in need of a catcher.  They had him up for a visit and he loved the coaching staff and school.  Yesterday the D2 school called and made him an offer and as of today our son is part of the Newberry Wolves family!!

My point is please take heed to what the people have to say on here, I know at the time JH, ClevelandDad, smalltownmom and bballman were giving me wonderful advice.  And I was reading the 2014 Anxiety thread and was thinking I had to type this because there is a school for every kid you just have to keep plugging and find the right fit.  It may be the last minute just dont give up hope, use every resource available and definitely pray on it.  Good luck to everyone out there!!  I truly mean that.

Will, congratulations!!!  That's great news.  I knew your son had redshirted, but didn't know about the rest.  I'm real glad he found a home.  Looks like Newberry has a pretty good program in a competitive conference.  I see you play a few of the teams in our conference, maybe we'll get scheduled to play each other over the next couple of years.  Good luck to you guys.  I'll be following.

No problem, its really crazy just keep the faith and use every resource you have.  It is crazy how small the baseball community is, you learn that pretty quickly. Good luck and feel free to send a PM.

John-we went through the recruiting together even though I have never met you in person.  I kept up with Sean this season and wish him the best going forward.  I hope one day we get to meet.

Will,

Great to hear from you once again and a wholehearted congratulations to Dondrei on the commitment to Newberry. He will competing in not only a great conference, but attending a great institution in a fabulous area as well. A former pitching coach of mine spent some time as an assistant at Newberry and I remember the caliber of players being extremely high during the times in which I competed with and against some members of the roster a few years back.

Once again, congratulations, and thank you for sharing the message. Stay proactive, open minded and persistent and good things will happen- especially to good people like yourself.

Will,

That is great news.  One of my son's good friends will also be at Newberry this upcoming year.  I believe he just went to orientation.  He is a great kid, a RHP.  I'll PM you his name.  Have talked to his mother and they are delighted with everything so far.  Best of luck to your son.  It looks as if you guys just made the best of a difficult situation, and everything worked out. So glad!

wbethea13, that was a very nice post, and I'm glad for your son.

Baseball is such a brutal game--all facets.  I will admit I was one of those dads, albeit behind the scenes, that planned, marketed, scheduled training, and worried incessantly.  It has been a nightmarish roller coaster:  Sat on the bench in little league, starred in h.s. and was drafted, marginalized at his first D1, red shirted and D1 to D1 transfer, drafted again, did great his first pro year, going 7-3.. then tore his ACL this year after going 0-1.  Now getting rehab for the next challenge.

I gave up years ago investing myself into his game.  It's up to him.  Don't get me wrong, I love the game, but it's enough to drive you nuts.  All you can do is raise 'em right, set 'em out straight and hope for the best.

I just received an PM from Will. Newberry was looking for a catcher all summer and it looks like they found big strong one. If Will's son is as gracious as Will is, my son will meet a new, quality teammate next week.

It's ironic that last summer my son and I were going through the same last minute anxiety. Coaches Triplet and Snyder never stops looking for players that will fit into the program.

After a year on the team my son still loves the school, the coaches and the baseball at Newberry. Not to mention the first love of his life. Haha.

Looking forward to meeting you Will.

due to medical reasons I have not been on the board in quite a long time  but I am back -- a little worse for wear but back.  one main element  runs wild here  and that is needless parental stress---  if the player has talent  it will all work out; trust me it will.I have gone thru it with two sons  both played division one ball. one played locally HERE IN  THE NORTHEAST  and the other in  NEWMEXICO.----
